~ ...Thirty-Three Years Ago ...~

Ode to Fort Yea

The mean and dirty sons of bitches
Hiked the gorges and the ditches
Haunted by the souls of witches
'Till they wound up cuts and stitches.

Up the gulch towards No Man's Land
O'er mountain rock and river sand
For safety's sake they formed a band
And marched to where Fort Yea would stand.

The ground was hot, O! the air was dry
The sun beat through a cloudless sky
And yet these evils they got by
And built Fort Yea in mountains high.

Of cabin wood they cut for days
The shelter style saw many ways
A roof was built to shield the rays;
They lit a fire and shouted Yea's!

These mean and dirty men of pleasure
Built their earthy wooden treasure
Now they live from day to day
Their hearts instilled within Fort Yea.
