It's the birthday of Janis Lyn Joplin, born this day in Port Arthur Texas, 1943.In 1966, Joplin's bluesy vocal style attracted the attention of the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, a band that had gained some renown among the hippie community in Haight-Ashbury.
She was recruited to join the group by Chet Helms, a promoter who had known her in Texas and who at the time was managing Big Brother.
Helms brought her to San Francisco and Joplin joined Big Brother on June 4, 1966.

It's also the birthday of a fellah by the name of Wayne (Finger-Eye) Fosinetti, born in Bacon-on-Griddle, England, 1949, the son of a wealthy commodities broker and a mother who worked as a B.O.A.C. flight attendant.At an early age Wayne was adept at putting his finger through his nose and his eye and this, above all else, has carried him through life.
