"If you need spreadable butter but it is all cold then grab a stick and use a cheese grater. It becomes spreadable and actually presents well."

Short story long: made pancakes this morning...went to butter cakes the on the plate...cube cold...you know the drill..**light bulb over head** remembered reading wReggie's blog not a half hour before...Bingo!! Not only is grating the butter a thing to do in a pinch, it is now going to be my de-facto butter application device. All I can say is...try it.
wReggie is like the Thomas Edison of butter....

Thank you....thank you. I was amazed.
I agree it sounds like a fantastic eye-opening (or light bulb) event but I always just scraped the knife over the top of the butter when it was cold and hard, always worked well for me. Messes up the butter stick a bit but that never bothered me, saves one more thing to have to wash. And THAT to me, is always a priority.
Can you tell I don't like to cook, can ya? huh?
Cause you are cooking for yourself....sad. Next time you have an event and forget to soften the butter you now know a way out.
I confess I only have stick butter in the house two times a year - Thanksgiving and Xmas, and use country crock the rest of the year.
(Ron goes through it like it was water)
But I think this idea is nothing short of BRILLIANT, and will forever remember it as a "way out" and (more importantly to me) a better alternative to leaving the stick butter out of the fridge - as much as I love the glass thingy I put it in.
Thanks so much ☺
Hey Dice...It IS water!!! Read the ingredients!Insofar(LOVE that word!)as cold butter dilema goes,..Me?...I slice it thin and lay it down. I'm just sayin, Just MY technique. Oh...Hi Phfrank!
Oh wReggie! Please don't EVER feel sad for me. Really!
It's not in my DNA.
Great idea and timely for me with the weather heating up I now have to put my butter in the fridge. In the colder months I keep it in a butter dish in our microwave. The one mounted above the stove and on an outside wall. Keeps pretty cold in there. I am a butter user, damn the fake stuff. I have it in the house of course 'cause Hubs doesn't diferentiate one from the other's flavor ??? so for his grilled cheese sammies he get the spreadable margerine.
Lu...I agree; damn the fake stuff! Even in these "hard times" (hey! I just made a 'cold butter' joke!)
Putting that into my brain file for future use...
