~ Du Yu...Have An Ulu? ~

This is an ulu.

An ulu is a knife used by the Inuit Eskimos of Alaska.

Five inches wide and about four inches tall, this magnificent blade is sitting on my roll-top desk.

It is known as a "woman's knife" because this is the knife used by Inuit women around the home, and it was utilized in applications as diverse as skinning and cleaning animals, cutting a child's hair, cutting food and, if necessary, trimming blocks of snow and ice used to build an igloo.

Traditinally the ulu blade would have been made of slate, due to the lack of metal in the Frozen Northland, and the handle would have been make of caribou antler, muskox horn or walrus ivory (mine is made of walnut).

This particular ulu was gifted to me last weekend by this wonderful fellow: my brother-in-law Ron Mingus.

He thought of me onnacounta the moose-head engraved on the knife-blade.

It is hollow ground stainless steel and sharp as a razor.

I dig it alot.

Thanks, Ron.

**Bonus!!**

Win Free Hotdog by identifying the pattern reflected on the blade.

So now when the world starts freezing over from global warming and the moose head south to the Delta you'll be ready.
