~ Ode To The Crouton ~

O! Crouton!

How do I love thee?

Let me count the ways.

I love thee in the Caesar: Thou art like sculpted, seasoned galleons amid the waving, undulating sea of Romaine;

like flavored mermaids you dot the surface and hide, playfully beneath the waves, daring to tossle with my fork 'till you enter my mouth, thence surrendering to my teeth, until you burst like a volcano with crunch! and snap! and reckless abandon!

Ah, Crouton!

Small cube of threshed and toasted wheat, with thine soft drapery of butter, I sing of thee!

Like crusty pillows on a beadspread of dressing you call to me in the night, daring me to partake of you, challenging me to rip you asunder, and I will!

Oh, yes! I will...
